The Body of Christ

The Bible says that we are members of one body where Christ is the head.

Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given us Romans 12:4

In the physical body, there is no leader. Each cell or organ does its part to contribute to the overall body. All are coordinated by the brain that regulates the various functions of the body and signals the cells and organs to make necessary adjustments.

Each organ and cell has its purpose and all do their part for the whole of the body. If a cell or organ causes distress or takes away from the body rather than giving back, it is extracted or removed. Otherwise, it will bring down the entire body. How effective have you been in your everyday life when you have a major toothache or a bad foot. It cripples your ability to function normally.

Each one of us has capabilities and gifts specifically given to us and cultivated by God to bear fruit. Now is a critical time in our churches where the senior members are passing the torch to the younger generation who will propel the God’s message into the 21st century.

Take the time now to really review your gifts and abilities. Pray for guidance from God for what part of the body you can contribute to. No contribution is really a loss to the church. There is something uniquely beautiful within you that has a place or purpose within our body. Offer your gift at the altar of Him who gave it to you. Those who, like the servant who hid his talent in the dirt, do not share their talents will end up losing them.

If you want to develop your talent, share it. We are not looking for Celine Dion for praise service or special music, nor are we looking for Dr. Suess or Mister Rogers for children’s stories. If you have a mouth, a voice, two hands and willingness to serve God, you are qualified. Whether you are eighteen or eighty, it does not matter. Serving God is an honor where we get to use our gifts to glorify Him who bequeathed them to us in the first place.
