A Friend in God

This past week, a new show debuted on CBS. The show is called God Friended Me. It is about a young man who has a podcast promoting the fact that there is no God. He receives a friend request through Facebook from someone claiming to be God. Once he finally accepts the request, he starts getting friend suggestions for people who need help. This begins to turn his current worldview upside down as little things begin to occur swaying him towards belief in God.

It is interesting how there have been more shows and movies about God recently. There was also a movie released called An Interview with God and there was a comedy that aired over the summer called Living Biblically. The people in the broadcast business must believe there is a hunger for more shows about the "Big Guy". While there is definitely a hunger out there for truth, shows like these rarely move the faith needle in the positive direction. A relationship with God is more than just believing in Him.

And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God.

James 2:23

Abraham was not accounted to righteousness for believing God but because he was willing to offer up his son Isaac as a sacrifice. At the last moment, God intervened and stopped him from killing Isaac. Because he did as God had asked and attempted to fulfill God's request believing in Him, he was granted a friendship with God. This is what this passage is trying to describe. Believing in God is not the only requirement. The scripture says the demons know God exists but there is no redemption for them. It is all about DOING the will of God that makes us friends with Him.

Our sole purpose on this planet is to seek His will for us and then fulfill it. He wants to have a relationship with all of us and unbelievably has the capacity to do so. His love for us through the sacrifice of His Son on the cross demonstrates that love. It is a powerful message to everyone on the planet that the Creator of the universe loves us so much, he was willing to physically die as we do so that we could embrace eternal life. In the end, this act of love will be the number one factor that determines who will gain access to immortality and who will be snuffed out forever.

Start today building a relationship with God and seeking out His will for you. Respond accordingly to His requests and build the friendship He so richly desires with you and me. He wants you to live abundantly, love richly and enjoy all that life has to offer but it is not the life that this world portrays. It is a life of servitude, humility and love for one another that leads down the narrow path to a friendship with God.

And that is the Whole Truth!

Have a wonderful rest of the week and may God bless you in your ongoing walk with Him.

And remember,

God always answers His kneemail.
