After Jesus death and Resurrection, He came to Peter and the disciples by the sea one morning and blessed them with a bounty of fish. When they returned to the shore, Jesus was there with a fire ready for them to eat breakfast.
Peter had denied he knew Jesus three times right before the crucifixion and now Jesus was going to make that right. In John 21, we read:
So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?”
He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”
He said to him, “Feed My lambs.”
He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?”
He said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.”
He said to him, “Tend My sheep.”
He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?”
And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.”
Jesus said to him, “Feed My sheep.
Jesus forgave Peter but also admonished him to care for Jesus sheep while He was gone. Peter is now gone so who is left to Feed the Sheep?
We as Christians have assumed the role of Peter and are compelled to take over where where Peter left off. Our mission and purpose is to tend and feed the sheep. The Great Shepherd is away and it is our responsibility to care for His sheep until He returns.
Encouragement, love, kindness, forgiveness and sustenance are the food God wants us to use to feed His sheep. This menu of items does not cost much nor does it place any heavy burdens upon us to distribute them. I believe it is this way on purpose. The enemy is doing all he can to steal this food from our pantry so we don't have enough to give to others. Through the faith in Christ, we can live abundantly and give cheerfully to all those who are in need.
So, if you are ever at a loss of your purpose or path to take in your life, just remember the words of Jesus to Peter, Feed my Sheep. We can't go wrong fulfilling that mission.
And that is the Whole Truth!
Have a wonderful rest of the week and may God bless you in your ongoing walk with Him.
And remember,
God always answers His kneemail.
