Set Free
Imagine you have been hauled into court for some offense. You know you are guilty and the price to pay will be steep. It will bring hardship on you and your family. No matter how sorry you are, you know the price must be paid.
The judge hands down the sentence and you are to be remanded to jail for a period of time. Just as the bailiff approaches you to whisk you off to prison, another man comes forth and volunteers to take your place in jail. He has the bailiff remove your handcuffs and place them on Him. The bailiff proceeds to escort this Man to jail in your stead.
This is the Gospel in a nutshell.
“Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. 35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. 36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed John 8:34
Free indeed. Sin has enslaved us all on this planet and we wander aimlessly trying to overcome. There is no rest except in death. The ultimate punishment for not living as God commands. The wages of sin is death. No one is righteous no not one. So we all are sentenced to the final prison.
But there was One who came to stand before the Judge and take the punishment for us so that we could be free. He bore our sins on the cross and became a substitute for the sentence we were meant to endure. He is our Proxy, our Replacement and our Stand in. He appeared before the Judge and took our place.
One day we will get to thank Him for His sacrifice as we experience the freedom meant for us from the beginning.
Thank you Lord for this gift of freedom. May we cherish it every day and share it with others.
And that is the Whole Truth!
Have a wonderful rest of the week and may God bless you in your ongoing walk with Him.
And remember,
God always answers His kneemail.
