Spiritual Muscle
My son has reached the age where he can start lifting weights to build up some upper body strength. He is somewhat in awe of how easy it is for me to lift weights he is struggling with. This is to be expected as I have already been working out for years and have built up the muscle necessary to handle heavier weights.
The Christian walk is very similar as we start out as babes needing to only drink the milk of the word as 1 Peter 2 writes:
"as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious."
Our crawl toward the love of Christ develops into the race as Peter mentions in Hebrews 12
let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
We cannot run the race if we have not built up the muscles first to run effectively. Just like weight lifting, it takes time to build up the muscle to be able to lift heavier weights. One cannot just go out and run a 10K unless they have trained ahead of time to prepare.
Paul highlights this in Hebrews 5
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is,those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
The enemy is on the lookout for newborn babes in Christ and it is during these initial times he is on the attack. One must be wary of this fact and be encapsulated in the Word of God during this time. God will help the one who trains in His Word to become worthy of the prize of discernment. Just like weight training, it is a daily effort and every day in Gods Word will help one be ready for anything sin throws his or her way. We must build up the spiritual muscle to take on the enemy and overcome. The trials and tribulations we endure are training to build up this resolve.
Are you dealing with difficulty and despair? Fear not as God is training you to become one mightier than the fallen angels. Take up the training God has laid at your feet and become the warrior He needs to protect the weak.
And that is the Whole Truth!
Have a wonderful rest of the week and may God bless you in your ongoing walk with Him.
And remember,
God always answers His kneemail.
