This past week, our Jewish Brothers and Sisters celebrated Rosh Hashana. For those of the non Jewish community, this is their New Year. It is the beginning of year 5780.
The Jewish calendar goes back over 5700 years using the Bible as its guide to understand how long man has walked upon the earth. Throughout the Scriptures, God has used time to determine major events. For some odd reason, the number 4 and 40 are used quite heavily. The number 4 appears 421 times in the Bible and the number 40 - 147.
Now the flood was on the earth forty days. The waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it rose high above the earth. Genesis 7
The rain lasted 40 days in Noah's time. The Israelites were in Egypt for over 400 years. They wandered in the desert for 40 years. Jesus was tempted in the wilderness for 40 days. The number 4, 40 and 400 are spread across the inspired writings from Genesis to Revelations.
It should be no surprise that Jesus showed up at year 4,000. This is where I believe the Jewish calendar is off. If Jesus arrived after 4,000 years then the Jewish calendar is off by over 200 years as Jesus birth in 4 BC would be the Jewish year 3757. Based on my reading of the scriptures and the deliverance after 40, 400 and feeding 4 thousand, it would make sense that Jesus would show up at 4,000 years after Adam and Eve.
For those who subscribe to the 1,000 years as a day and that the story of mankind is to last 6 days or 6 thousand years, then we would be nearing the end of the mankind's struggle here on Earth. It is at that time that Jesus would be coming to usher in the 1,000 years of peace. However, no one knows except God the Father. If anyone tells you they know the day of Jesus coming, they are a liar for Scripture tells us in Mark.
But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Mark 13
Understand that God's timing is not like our own. He has a plan and He is revealing it one day at a time. He has a plan for your life and mine and if we have faith, He will faithfully provide and deliver at His appointed time.. 40 hours, 40 days or even 40 years! It is not for us to understand but just to be patient and have faith.
You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand. James 5
God will deliver in the end. Jesus will reveal Himself once again to this sin filled world and will finally free us from the bondage of the enemy that only seeks to destroy. It may be in the next 10 years or 220 but who knows. All we know is we must be faithful and true to His Word until He arrives.
Come Lord Jesus... we are weary of the pain and suffering this world offers. Come Lord Jesus...sooner rather than later please!
