I remember back in school when two captains would be chosen for teams and then they got to pick from the rest of the class who they wanted on their team. Usually this was an athletic competition of some sort so as captain, you wanted the most capable to fulfill your winning ambition.
This usually did not bode well for the less athletic and more scholarly students. This lack of inclusion had some lasting damage on many who began to feel inadequate and not good enough from that time on.
Feelings of inadequacy lead to several maladies from depression to anxiety. I don't think educators truly understand the potential damage they are doing to these kids when they put them in this situation. Being picked last in this exercise has a lasting affect on men and women as they develop into adulthood.
The whole truth is that we do matter. We do have value and are unique in the entire universe. While not all of us are athletically gifted, we are all born with some type of gift. If the captains of the team were trying to win the science fair, the picking order would be much different. Kids these days just need to understand their gift and then competent educators can help develop those abilities into a vocation that will propel the student to amazing achievement.
Sadly, sports and entertainment dominate our society so those traits are more coveted than ones of brains and compassion. The world is upside down but God knew this would be the case.
For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.
2 Timothy 3
Do you know any people like this today? Just turn on the TV and they are on almost every channel!!
The whole truth is that the schoolyard pick will be used again at the end of time. Except in this scenario, we get to pick rather than someone picking us. You see God has already chosen us to be on His team so the choice should be easy.
If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. John 15
We will be given the choice of life or death. The choice of leaning on God or leaning on our own abilities and desires. You would think it would be an easy choice?
Let us choose justice for ourselves; Let us know among ourselves what is good. Job 34
Many will choose poorly and will be separated from God forever. I pray you are not one of those egocentric individuals who does not understand the gift God offers.
Choose now my friend to follow in the footsteps of our Lord who chose to come down to this sin filled world and become a sacrifice so that we might be forgiven of our fruitless ways. A milestone that opened the door to eternal life. Choose Him and you will be on the winning team!
And that is the Whole Truth!
May God truly bless you in your walk with Him.
And remember, God always answers His kneemail.
