If you read the Bible enough times, you start seeing two themes emerge. Two paths that we as humans can take during our time on this amazing planet. One leads to happiness and one leads to destruction. You may think it is the classic Good vs Evil argument but that is not the case.
No what I am talking about is how we see ourselves and our purpose here on this third rock from the Sun. Many search their whole lives looking for purpose and meaning. Then there are those who become wealthy, famous and even attain royalty but still do not attain happiness or grasp what "it" is all about.
The Bible has laid out fairly clearly what the two paths are and which one is recommended for our well being and prosperity. If you have not read the Bible, I highly recommend it as it will refresh your soul:
he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Psalm 23:3
Our mission on this world is all about what we should be concerned with.
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:4
But for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury. Romans 2:8
There are only two paths. A path of sacrifice and service to others or a path of selfishness and me first mentality. Unfortunately, there are too many with the Me first mentality. The Bible said this would be so thousands of years ago:
For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 2 Timothy 3:2-4
Know anyone like this?? We see them every day on TV and in magazines. Unfortunately, so many look up to these lovers of self instead of looking within. We are all God's children and the truth is right there in front of us every day. Someone who needs help. Be the light, be the love of God and give of yourself. God will do the rest.
Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.
Our purpose is to love and help others, NOT to prop ourselves up in vain attempts at glory and honor. Those only come to those who live a life for others. Mother Theresa, Jesus, Martin Luther King just to name a few. These people understood the right path to take and boldly gave their lives to its pursuit.
Theirs will be a rich reward at the end of the age. Its not too late to add our names to that list.
